How the AI works — in plain English
Attorneys are held to a competence duty when they adopt technology (see ABA Formal Opinion 512 and your state's guidance). So instead of hand-waving about “magic,” here is precisely what happens to a dictation, stage by stage.
1. Transcription
Your audio is converted to text by a commercial speech-recognition service operating under no-training terms.
Where you stay in control: Audio is stored in your firm's private, encrypted storage. The verbatim transcript is kept alongside every extraction so you can always check the source.
2. Structured extraction
A large language model (Anthropic's Claude) reads the transcript together with your firm's matter list, and returns a strict, structured result: matched cases, proposed notes, proposed deadlines, and drafted client updates.
Where you stay in control: The model is instructed to draft status updates only — never legal advice, never outcome predictions — and to invent nothing that isn't in the transcript. Its output is constrained to a fixed schema; it cannot take actions.
3. Attorney review
Every extracted item appears in a review screen next to the original transcript.
Where you stay in control: Nothing is filed and nothing is sent until you apply it. Each note, deadline, and update is applied individually, and every applied item records which dictation it came from.
4. Approved delivery
Client updates you approve are delivered as a recorded call in a professional synthesized voice, or as an email from your firm.
Where you stay in control: The approval queue re-checks the client's consent for each channel at send time. Delivery receipts are logged to the case and the audit log.
What the AI never does
- ✕The AI never contacts a client on its own. Delivery happens only after attorney approval (or under a per-update-type auto-send rule you explicitly enable).
- ✕The AI never gives legal advice — to you or your clients. It organizes, drafts, and schedules.
- ✕Your data never trains anyone's model. Our AI providers process content under no-training commercial terms.
- ✕The AI never acts outside its schema. It returns structured proposals; only the application — under your account and your firm's permissions — writes to case files.
